    To become a Freemason in Rhode Island, you should meet these basic requirements:

    • Be at least 18 years of age
    • Be a man of good character and reputation
    • Believe in a Supreme Being
    • Be of sound mind and body
    • Come to Freemasonry of your own free will
    • Be recommended by two Master Masons

    What are the requirements to become a Freemason?
    To become a Freemason, you must be a man of good character, believe in a Supreme Being, be at least 18 years old, and have two Freemasons recommend you. You should also have a genuine interest in self-improvement and helping others.
    How long does it take to become a Mason?
    The timeframe varies by Lodge, but typically the petition process takes a few months. Once accepted, you’ll progress through three degrees over the course of several months to a year, depending on your Lodge’s schedule and your own pace.
    What is the time commitment?
    Most Lodges meet once or twice a month in the evening. Beyond meetings, you can participate in social events, charitable activities, and educational programs based on your availability and interests. Freemasonry is flexible and works around your schedule.
    Is Freemasonry a secret society?
    No, Freemasonry is not a secret society. Our members, meeting places, and charitable activities are public knowledge. What we do keep private are certain ceremonial aspects and modes of recognition, which add to the meaningful nature of our teachings.
    How much does it cost?
    Costs vary by Lodge but typically include an initiation fee and annual dues. These fees cover the operating costs of the Lodge and are generally affordable. Your Lodge will provide specific information about costs during the petition process.
